Mathura & Vrindavan

Two of Hinduism’s holiest sites, Mathura, which lies 50 km north of Agra, is attributed as being the birthplace of Lord Krishna; whilst he is meant to have spent much of his childhood in Vrindavan. Just 11 km apart from one another, both towns are strewn with colourful temples, almost all in honour of this most important deity. From the Banke Bihari Temple, at which the curtain in front of Krishna’s statue is opened and closed every few minutes, to the enormous Prem Mandir Temple. You’ll find the best time, weather-wise, between October and March.
