Haridwar

Located along the banks of the Ganges, where the river exits the Himalayan foothills, Haridwar is one of Hinduism’s holiest pilgrimage spots. Busiest during religious festivals, most notably the Kanwar Mela in July, however the best time to visit weather-wise would be between October and March. The evening Ganga Aarti, taking place along the sacred ghats (bathing steps) of the Kar Ki Pauri, can be experienced daily. Accompanied by the sound of mantra chanting and the sight of thousands of diyas (floating lamps) it is a spellbinding experience.
