Allahabad

Recently renamed Prayagraj, this is the site of ‘The Greatest Gathering on Earth’, The Kumbh Mela. Every-six-years this city witnesses tens of millions of Hindus descend upon the confluence between The Ganges, The Yamuna River, and the mythical Saraswati River, to take a dip in its holy waters and cleanse themselves of their sins. One of Hinduism’s holiest spots, the rest of this year this bustling town is far less populated and houses the 16th-century Allahabad Fort, built by the then Mughal Emperor, Akbar. Visit during October and March for the best weather.
