Hampi

A unique combination of rocks and ruins, Hampi was once the centre of the Hindu Vijayanagara Empire capital. With an impressive collection of 14th-century temples, travellers should allow at least a couple of days to explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Far more than a lesson in ancient history, its’ Jurassic Park-like surrounds are a geological wonder: towering red-rock boulders surrounded by lush paddy fields, shimmering lakes, and palm trees as far as the eye can see. It’s a perfect combination of culture and relaxation and is a wonderful place to explore on two wheels. Best visited between the months of November and February.
