Alleppey

Alleppey, The Backwaters, or ‘The Venice of the East’ is India unlike anywhere else. Home to over a thousand houseboats, by water, is the preferred mode of transport in this part of the country. From school buses to floating doctors and libraries, life exists on the canals. Located along the Laccadive Sea, just over an hour south of Kochi. Sample some of the flavours for which the region is known: appam, Malabar paratha, and the Kerala style fish molee. The festivals of Onam and the famous snake boat races, both taking place in August and September are a spectacle to behold. Weather-wise, the best time to travel is between November and February.
