Maharashtra

Home to India’s most populous city, Mumbai, there is far more to Maharashtra than its megapolis capital. From the fertile plains of Nashik, India’s wine-country, to the hand-carved ancient cave temples of Ajanta and Ellora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a must visit, there is plenty to explore in India’s third largest state. Escape the heat in the hills, at the quaint hill station of Lonavala, or to the student town of Pune, or even India’s answer to Portofino, Lavasa. There is something for every season in Maharashtra, though between November and February generally affords the best weather.
